Neighbour Noise (Nuisance and Antisocial Behaviour)

Nuisance Recorders are widely used as a means of assessing whether complaints are genuine. Installing a Nuisance Recorder at a complainant’s premises is generally welcomed by genuine complainants. The first benefit of installing a Nuisance Recorder is that it is seen, by genuine complainants, as a positive step towards addressing the issue. 

ANV Measurement Systems offer three popular Noise Nuisance Recorders. The Norsonic Nor145 Nuisance Recorder, the Norsonic Nor140 Nuisance Recorder and the ANV/Rion NNR-04 Nuisance Recorder.

Choice of the brand of Nuisance Recorder is based on the team’s personal preferences. All systems have handsets for complainants to start recording when the anti-social behaviour commences and both the Norsonic and Rion systems have software which enables the team to review the recorded audio and noise levels. Both manufacturers’ systems also have pre-trigger functions which record the audio a few moments before the complainant presses the record button in order to catch whether the complainant has provoked the incident.

The second benefit of installing a nuisance recorder is that it enables the team to evaluate whether the complaint has merit, and therefore warrants further investigation, or whether the complaint is not being driven by a bona fide noise issue. 

If, having reviewed the audio and noise levels, you consider that the complainant is being subjected to unreasonable noise to the degree that it amounts to anti-social behaviour, you have evidence in the form of properly calibrated noise levels and recordings. This is the third benefit of installing a Noise Nuisance Recorder, and one that can only be provided by proper, calibrated professional instrumentation.
