In the UK, the national Environment Agencies have responsibility for the environmental regulation of major industry and waste.

The agencies have to deal with some very complex environmental situations where cutting- edge instrumentation is needed to properly assess the issues.

LivEnviro can be used for this, especially using the flexible alert setting options available for noise when the octave/third octave bands or the ability to monitor VDV and PPV vibration levels and dominant frequency.

In situations where it is necessary to differentiate between noise from different sources, the Norsonic Nor1297 Noise Compass can be used to differentiate between sounds arriving from different directions. Specific noise sources within complex situations can, of course, be located with the Norsonic Nor848B Acoustic Camera.

In addition to these systems, ANV Measurement Systems can provide a number of options from Rion and Norsonic for attended and unattended monitoring. The Norsonic Nor145, in particular, supports very sophisticated analysis and measurement options for environmental noise.

The Health and Safety Executive is Britain’s national regulator for workplace health and safety.

The Health and Safety Executive have always taken a keen interest in the quality of measurement instrumentation, and in particular whether instrumentation performance achieves compliance with appropriate standards.
