ANV Measurement Systems have two principal options for measuring low frequency noise with a sound level meter: the Norsonic Nor145 and the Rion NL-63.Â
The Norsonic Nor145 measures down to the 0.4 Hz third octave band without the need for any specific low frequency option. It is also possible to switch in a 3 Hz high pass filter which may be necessary to avoid overloads when measuring airborne sound. The ability to simultaneously measure and view third octave band and FFT data can be really useful when addressing low frequency noise issues. It can also be useful of course to use the Nor145’s wav file recording option to evaluate the noise further.
The Rion NL-63 is a dedicated low frequency sound level meter with a frequency range of 1 – 20,000 Hz. It is almost identical to the Rion NL-53 but it has an extended frequency range down to the 1 Hz third octave band. The NX-43FT FFT and NX-43WR audio recording options are compatible with the NL-63 and there is a dedicated third octave option NX-63RT with third octave bands from 1 Hz to 20 kHz.Â
