Rion NX-42WR Sound Recording Option for Rion NL-52 (Class 1) or Rion NL-42 (Class 2) SLM

Rion NX-42WR Sound Recording Option for Rion NL-52 (Class 1) or Rion NL-42 (Class 2) SLM

The NX-42WR adds uncompressed WAV file audio recording to Rion NL-52/42 sound level meters to form a full-fidelity, configurable and easy-to-use audio recording enabled logging system. For windfarm compliance monitoring it is becoming essential to record instrumentation-quality, calibrated WAV files to facilitate evaluation of low frequency tones and modulation. For construction, demolition or compliance monitoring, it useful to know whether an exceedance was due to the site or an extraneous source of noise. For PPG 24 assessments it is essential to be able to state what the principal sources of daytime and night-time noise were. The NX-42WR is also part of the NNR-03 Nuisance Recorder package. The way the recording option works on the instrument inspires confidence – you can see immediately from the instrument display whether audio recording is enabled and you can see clearly when audio is being recorded.

If maximum fidelity is what you require, there’s 48 kHz, 24 bit quality. If being able to record huge amount of audio is your challenge, the instrument can be set to 16 bit and 12 kHz sampling which would allow a massive 256 hours of audio on a 32 GB SD™ card (optional extra). Regardless of which sample rate or bit length you choose, the perceived audio quality of the wav files is excellent.

The NX-42WR offers four types of audio sampling: Total (records the whole measurement period split into 1 minute, 10 minute or 1 hour wav files), Manual (press the Enter button on the meter to start recording during a measurement and press it again to stop the recording), Level-Triggered (records everything above user-specified levels) and Interval recording (records a 15 second, 1 minute or 2 minute sample every 10 minutes or 1 hour).

  • 4 different audio recording regimes available
  • Total: The whole measurement period can be recorded split into 1 minute, 10 minute or 1 hour wav files
  • Level-Triggered: Audio can be recorded when noise level exceeds user-defined trigger levels for event identification or capture for re-analysis
  • 4 different trigger levels can be set within a 24 hour period
  • Interval: Records periodic audio snapshots (records a 15 second, 1 minute or 2 minute sample every 10 minutes or 1 hour);
  • Periodic and Level Triggered audio functions can be operated simultaneously;
  • Manual: Start and stop audio recording with selectable 0, 5 second and 1 minute pre-trigger whilst the meter is carrying out a measurement
  • 0, 5 second and 1 minute selectable pre-trigger when used with the NNR-03 Noise Nuisance Recorder
  • Selectable 24 bit or 16 bit recording
  • Selectable 12 kHz, 24 kHz or 48 kHz sampling rate
  • Records standard wav files that can be played with generic media players
  • The wav files are calibrated and suitable for post-processing or re-analysis
  • Clear indication on the meter display when audio recording is in progress;
  • Can be used with Rion AS-60 software which displays audio file icons and level vs. time graphs (click on the audio file icons for playback) for up to 8 datasets (which can be synchronised within the software).
